Adapt8 brings Louver manufacturing back to US

"Pandemic-related supply chain delays spur production change"

Adapt8, maker of durable and efficient greenhouse and agricultural products, brought the manufacturing of louvers used in Adapt8 greenhouse kits, sheds and other outbuildings back to the US. By producing louvers in-house, Adapt8 is able to offer custom sizes and colors as well as quick ship times.

Adapt8 is a family-owned company in Salem, Ore. Adapt8 is best known for Solexx, a twin-wall greenhouse covering with superior insulation, light, quality and longevity, resulting in healthier plants and lower energy bills. Adapt8 is parent company of The Greenhouse Catalog, aiming to provide sustainable gardening products to the hobby grower year-round

When the pandemic slowed the international supply chain last spring, Adapt8 couldn’t obtain key components for the louvers used in their greenhouse kits. In response, the company developed a lean manufacturing process and moved the louver production in-house. Now Adapt8 is able to produce the louvers for half of the cost and with improved components including the opening mechanism.

Louvers are made from horizontal slats that are angled to admit light and air while keeping out rain and direct sun. Louvers are used in both commercial and hobby greenhouses as well as blackout greenhouses, sheds, chicken coops  and other outbuildings.

New environment
In keeping with Adapt8’s commitment to sustainability and environmentally sound practices, the louvers will be made from left-over Solexx, Adapt8’s twin-wall greenhouse covering material. Solexx will let in more diffuse light than the previous louver, resulting in an improved growing environment.

The process Adapt8 developed to manufacture the louvers will allow the company to make almost any sized louver for use on new or existing greenhouses or buildings. The company will also produce black louvers for blackout greenhouses and double dutch doors for their existing greenhouse kits.

“Adapt8 is proud to have developed the processes to move this production to our Salem facility. Adapt8’s Solexx greenhouse kits are already produced in USA and this brings us closer to the goal of sourcing as many components in the USA as possible,” said Michelle Moore, president of Adapt8.

Adapt8 louvers can be ordered at this website.
