In a bid to bring in more shoppers, UK supermarkets have started to cut the prices of Christmas vegetables. Asda, Tesco, Lidl, and Aldi all have special deals on a number of festive sides including potatoes, sprouts and parsnips.
Last year competitive discounting saw prices bottom out at 15p a bag at Aldi and Lidl, while Tesco discount brand Jack's included was offering veg for just 13p a bag. For 2020, it's Aldi leading the way with veg at 14p, followed by Lidl who have offers on for 15p.
An Aldi spokesman said: "Aldi is on hand to help customers snap up some cracking bargains, with its 14p drop of six of its most popular veggies for Christmas Day. At that price, every spare inch of the dining table should be filled with bowls of colourful veg.”
Lidl GB's Ryan McDonnell said: “This year more than ever, we want to ensure shoppers can enjoy the highest quality produce for the best value price. As we look forward to Christmas and the New Year our customers can rely on the fact we will never be beaten on price.”
Asda's Shamma Mohammed told lancs.live: "This year has been tough for many, so we want to give customers the best deals wherever we can, especially over the festive period. The great value 20p price point ensures customers can get all the fresh produce they need for their Christmas dinner to satisfy the entire family, without breaking the bank."
