Fire devastates a hydroponic greenhouse in Neuquen

A fire has completely destroyed the facilities of a hydroponic greenhouse in Neuquen. As reported by its owner Ignacio Iranzi, the firefighters quickly put out the fire, but the damage was total: "There was nothing left." Fortunately, nobody was hurt, but 40 workers lost their jobs.

The fire devastated everything in only 10 minutes, Iranzi stressed. At the time of the incident, 30 employees were working in the administration offices. They did not manage to take any of the belongings. "They were barely able to escape, they didn't have time for anything," he stated.

The incident was believed to have started at the cardboard recycling plant, but according to Iranzi, it's still unclear where it started. The property has a large area and the fire reached the hydroponic greenhouse, the cold chambers, and all the offices.

In addition, the fire broke out at the worst moment: in the middle of a windy storm, with gusts that reached 104 kilometers per hour and a power cut in the Industrial Park sector where the greenhouse was located. As a result of the blackout, we were unable to turn on the pumps to put out the fire, the businessman said. "We have a water system for that, but it didn't work in this context," he added.

Large losses
The fire completely burned down a cardboard recycler, greenhouse presses, lettuce cold rooms with two sprinters, two vans, a truck, and two collector cars. In addition, the fire destroyed all the replacement pipes and a new nursery. "The fire destroyed the entire maintenance workshop and all our spare parts, the entire stock of seeds, fertilizers, pipes, paint chambers, and compressors. It's a terrible thing," Iranzi lamented.
