Strawberries grown in the province are already available in the Mercado del Carmen of Huelva. They arrived at the beginning of November, reaching prices of around 11 Euro (10.5 Euro, exactly); however, as the month has passed, this figure has been reduced, falling to around 7 Euro per kilo last weekend.
According to Freshuelva, the strawberries that are now being sold were planted in pots at the end of August. The organization cannot specify the number of hectares that Huelva's growers devote to the crop, but it estimates it at slightly over 6,000, with some 340 million plants planted.
The association of strawberry producers believes that the first strawberries of the new 2020/2021 campaign will begin to reach the national and international markets in early December, and that the first varieties to be harvested, as is traditional, will be the extra-early San Andreas, Fortuna and Rociera, among others.
