Recently, the first smart plastic greenhouse has been built in the suburbs of Beijing. With the help of 14 agricultural IoT technologies such as intelligent controls and labor-saving operations, technicians can remotely monitor and control multiple greenhouse environments and realize the digital management of the entire process of vegetable planting in the region.
In the Jinliuhuan Agricultural Park, Changping District, a lot of smart water and fertilizer equipment is placed in front of 5 contiguous cucumber greenhouses. The roofs of these greenhouses are equipped with the fan devices responsible for adjusting the environment, the roots of the crops are equipped with intelligent water and fertilizer drip irrigation pipes, and the rows of cucumber crops are also equipped with intelligent equipment with different functions such as temperature control and environmental monitoring and fully covered by cameras, and the whole process of cucumber production except for harvesting is realized through digital smart management.
According to Mr. Wang Tiechen, a researcher at the Beijing Agricultural Technology Extension Station, compared with the traditional vegetable production model, the intelligent production unit has improved the utilization rate of water and fertilizer through substrate cultivation and scientific management of the nutrient solution. It can save up to 375 m3 of water and 150 kg fertilizer per hectare. Through the information integrated collection system, the intelligent greenhouse realizes real-time monitoring and early warning and control of the environment in the greenhouses, which can create suitable environmental conditions for the growth and development of crops, and reduce the application of plant protection products by 35%. In addition, the optimization of agronomic cultivation measures and the labor-saving field management platform has greatly eased labor intensity in the field, and labor production efficiency can be increased by more than 25%.
Mr. Wang Tiechen calculated, according to the 10-year depreciation of the equipment, the increase of intelligent production equipment in the plastic greenhouse will increase the investment of around 70,000 RMB [10,500 USD] per hectare on average, but the output can be increased by 10% each year, and it can also save labor costs and fertilizer input, which means one hectare of land can save costs and increase income by at least 21,000 RMB [3,100 USD] per year.
In the final year of the "13th Five-Year Plan", the Beijing fruit and vegetable team is committed to promoting the high-quality development of agriculture, using the experimental station platform to build Beijing's first intelligent production unit for plastic greenhouses, and then will promote to more vegetable production parks of companies in the suburbs of Beijing to apply demonstrations on more vegetable varieties, and provide important support for the stable supply of the "vegetable basket" in the capital city.
