The blue rigid EPS-trays won't longer be used in 2021. A foldable crate will be the alternative, but that won't be a suitable solution for everyone. Therefore, for several growers, it becomes more interesting to start using their own pool trays. One of the options on the market are the transport boxes of Beekenkamp Verpakkingen and recently, they introduced a new line. On top of the fact that any system that uses pooled returnable transit packaging (RTP) can easily switch to the Beekenkamp transport box, this new line doesn't have a stacking rim, resulting in fewer malfunctions, less downtime and reduced breakage when being used on a conveyor belt, roller conveyor or chain conveyor.

Hygiene
Hygiene plays an increasingly important role when using transport boxes. Unfortunately, contamination via pooling trays can be a problem and to prevent or minimize the spread of any viruses, strict measures are necessary. "One of these measures that can be taken is shifting to your own transport boxes", explains Aart Jan Bos, General Sales Manger at Beekenkamp Verpakkingen. "When a grower chooses for their own boxes, they do not only know the origin of the box, they also control the washing process."
Weight in line with Euro Pool
With this new transport box, any system that uses pooled returnable transit packaging (RTP) can easily switch to the Beekenkamp transport box, according to Bos. "This new range of boxes has the same tare weight as pool packaging, so you can use your own packaging with your existing machines."
No stacking rim
A logistics system with a conveyor belt, roller conveyor or chain conveyor is less likely to encounter problems if the transport boxes used have a smooth base. Therefore, they decided to expand their range with transport boxes with a smooth and a ribbed base. Currently, they have two sizes; low and medium-height. "Removal of these stacking rim does not only reduce damage on the boxes and therefore results in less downtime."
Choose own transport box colour
The new transport boxes are made from HDPE and can be produced in any colour. "We can also print any logo on the long side of the box. These boxes are food-safe as standard and are suitable for storage, processing and transport of fresh produce such as tomatoes, sweet peppers and other vegetables."
