Turkey: Tomato greenhouses employ young women and stop their migration from the city

A 1.3-hectare greenhouse built in the Silopi district of Sirnak, a city located in the southeastern region of Turkey, has become an important source of income for local women. The greenhouse employs 15 women; the women who had to travel to other cities to find employment, are now comfortably working in their hometown.

The greenhouse is used for cucumber production. Greenhouse owner Serdar Soysal notes that more similar investments are required in the area for the financial development of the city. The city has been losing its inhabitants rapidly due to the migration to other cities, since the job opportunities remain extremely limited in the city.
