Turkey’s unused agricultural land transformed into banana greenhouses

Farmers and landowners in Antalya rent their unused land to large companies for 10 years for them to build banana greenhouses. The number of banana greenhouses is rapidly increasing in the city thanks to the incentive programs to boost domestic banana production.

Banana greenhouses require sizable investments to build, thus farmers prefer to lease them to companies who can undertake such a big amount of investments. A 7-hectare banana greenhouse requires around 1 million USD of investment and the annual expected revenue is around 200,000 USD.
