Russia takes measures to keep out ToBRFV

A new problem for the domestic greenhouse vegetable growing – tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV). Presently, the threat of bringing ToBRFV into the territory of the Russian Federation with imported tomatoes is urgent.

In this regard, the Association 'Greenhouses of Russia' sent to the name of S.А. Dankvert – the head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, appeal on this issue.

In this regard Rosselkhoznadzor adopted and strengthened measures to prevent the risk of importing this infection with imported products: fruits, seeds and seedlings of tomato and pepper from China, Israel, Turkey, Egypt, Morocco and other importing countries into Russia.

In order to ensure the phytosanitary well-being, Rosselkhoznadzor, starting from July 20 of this year, has been organizing laboratory tests  to detect ToBRFV.

'Greenhouses of Russia' is holding on July 23 the Board of Directors of the Association where the following issues will be considered:

  • pest risk assessment of ToBRFV for protected ground;
  • measures to prevent infection of tomato crops with this virus in domestic greenhouses;
  • the possibility of applying emergency phytosanitary measures in relation to countries in which this virus has been detected.
