DIA increases its purchases from Grupo La Caña by 40%
The main management team of the Grupo DIA, represented by Stephan DuCharme, executive president, and Ricardo Alvarez, CEO of Spain, visited on June 3 Grupo La Caña's production plant in Castell de Ferro (Granada), which grows the cherry tomatoes that DIA distributes in Spain in nearly 3,000 stores and through its online shopping service dia.es, which reaches the homes of more than 5 million Andalusians.
Grupo DIA visited these facilities to thank and recognize the effort they've made in the field during the COVID-19 pandemic to guarantee the supply of fresh products. The distribution company increased its purchases of round cherry, pear, and branch tomato varieties of Grupo La Caña by 40% during the pandemic.
"It has been 15 years since your tomatoes first entered our stores. We are here today to thank you for all the work you've done all these years, and especially during the COVID crisis. The pandemic has highlighted the fundamental role of food producers and distributors to guarantee a basic need such as food," stated Stephan DuCharme during the visit.
Jesus Garcia, the CEO of Grupo La Caña, highlighted: “We are very pleased to receive the visit of the new executive management of DIA supermarkets. This gesture shows the joint work we do as part of the food chain. We share an extensive commercial relationship with DIA, but we also share a mission and corporate values that aim at delivering healthy products to the consumer in optimal quality conditions.”
Maria Jose Martin, Territorial Delegate in Granada of the Ministry of Agriculture, wanted to congratulate the DIA and La Caña groups for the great work they are doing. “It is a very important day for the company. The visit of the management team of Grupo DIA is a recognition of the great effort they have been developing in research, development, and innovation (R + D + i), as well as to their growth with factories such as Caña Nature, dedicated to the elaboration of V range products, or its clothing plant for organic products, which will open its doors in September.”
Andalusia is a key area for the Grupo DIA. With a network of more than 600 stores and 4,400 employees in the Community, the company is committed to generating wealth, which it achieves by generating employment and by purchasing from local suppliers such as Grupo La Caña.
