CAN (BC): Work permits necessary prior to TFW travel

Western Agriculture Labour Initiative (WALI) reminds employers that under the COVID special measures, all workers must be in possession of a valid work permit before they fly to Canada. Applications for work permits must be submitted online and workers can only travel to Canada once they are issued a valid work permit or are in possession of an official notification of approval. Work permits cannot be applied for at the port of entry to Canada during this time.

Update on workers arriving from Mexico
As media have reported, the ban on workers travelling from Mexico has been lifted and B.C. continues to receive workers. Work permits continue to be processed slowly. WALI has been receiving more regular updates on the status of outstanding work permit applications from the Ministry of Labour in Mexico. These updates are communicated directly to employers on a regular basis.

Inspections mandatory
Reminder that all farms who provide worker housing for temporary workers – domestic or foreign, including those that provide camping spots on their farms are required to have the facility inspected by the provincial government. There are no exemptions to this process.
