US exporters are willing to sign safety statement

US could export agricultural products worth 32 billion USD to China in the next 2 years

A recent news announcement stated that US food exporters are currently preparing a draft proposal that will help to solve potential problems in the export of agricultural products from the USA to China. Previously, Chinese exporters have had to sign a "no virus" testimony. The US Agriculture Transportation Coalition (AgTC) is currently preparing a draft statement that will be used by US exporters who trade with China. The statement ensures that the harvest, processing, and management of the products in question all proceeded in accordance with medical requirements and industry standards. These statements, signed by importers and exporters, will help to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

A representative of the US Soybean Export Coalition (USSEC) explained that Chinese soybean importers requested cooperation between both parties to come up with a system that helps to certify products that meet all the requirements. However, the US Agricultural Traders Organization explained that this demand has "shaken" the confidence of some American farmers in export to the Chinese market. Some intermediaries have begun to refuse products destined for China, because they can not guarantee that the agricultural products arrive in China uninfected, even if they can guarantee that the products left the USA clean.

The problems surrounding food product safety in multinational companies have only grown worse as Covid-19 spread throughout Europe and the USA. One beef company under the banner of Agra and another pork company under the banner of Tulip have already voluntarily stopped exporting to the Chinese market. China has now halted any import from these two companies.

However, the willingness of relevant organisations in the USA to sign safety statements also guarantees a certain product quality. At the moment, there are positive trends in Sino-US trade. The export of US soybeans, one of the key items in Sino-US trade, is rising. In the last two weeks, the weekly export volume of US soybeans reached 720 thousand tons. That is the largest weekly export volume in the last six months.

The reason that these safety statements are so important is the agreement that China and the USA reached in January. That agreement allows China to import agricultural products from the USA with a total worth of 32 billion USD in the next two years. In other words, these safety statements can keep Sino-US trade running during this Covid-19 pandemic and may be the only way to reach that target of 32 billion USD.
