Russian grower plans 17 ha greenhouse complex in Nizhny Novgorod

In 2020, Rost, one of the biggest vegetable producers in Russia, are planning to open a greenhouse complex in the city of Bor (Nizhny Novgorod) at the cost of 65.5 million euros.

The acreage of the first phase of the greenhouse complex should comprise 17.3 ha. It is planned to grow cucumbers and tomatoes with the assistance of supplemental lighting there.

The average crop yield for tomatoes would comprise 70 kilos per square meter, and 140 kilos per square meter for cucumbers.

Earlier Russian media wrote that the regional government were conducting negotiations with an investor on greenhouse construction in Bor, as it would allow increasing greenhouse vegetable production in the region by 45%. However, the Ministry of Agriculture remarked that the negotiations were tough, as the investor demanded such support measures which would diminish any effect of the construction to the budget.
