Organic courgettes and cucumbers see a boom in orders, requested mainly from Northern Europe

"After having completed the broccoli campaign, we are now moving on to more summery, fresher products, which are grown using strictly organic farming. We have just started the zucchini and cucumber season, and it looks like a great start, both for the requests and for the quotations" - commented Giuseppe Maffia, sales manager of Principe di Puglia, a company located in the province of Foggia with over 500 hectares of organic produce and 30 contributing members.

"The courgette harvest started this week. Although we have less quantity this year due to the bizarre climate and temperatures below the seasonal average, we can also boast excellent quality, not to mention the size. A flood of orders are arriving mainly from Northern European countries and the first deliveries have reached their destination in the best possible way, with no complaints for perished goods. With regard to this product, we also supply some general Italian markets, in addition to the foreign large-scale retail trade, which accounts for 70% of the company's turnover."

"We started harvesting cucumbers on 18 June 2020. We are already receiving the first orders, and the prices are interesting in terms of a product from Puglia and, moreover, organic. We have a vast assortment of potatoes, broad beans, spinach, eggplants and tomatoes available in the next few weeks".

"By now it is common knowledge that the consumption of organic products is growing, but if we compare the March-May 2019 period with the 2020 one, we can confirm a +30% increase in orders. As a matter of fact, the boom in requests continued even during the European lockdown period. The standard, product seems to differ from the biological category by several percentages. Consumers are paying more and more attention to the quality and safety of food products. The coronavirus has therefore consolidated a trend that I believe will no longer decline."
