Growing in Italy's tomato heartland

"Our company is located in Portopalo di Capopassero (SR), in south-east Sicily, on a strip of land between the Ionian Sea and the Strait of Sicily. It produces vegetables on sandy soil and irrigates them with brackish water," explains Beppe Signorello, sales manager of a company named after him. This territory boasts a strong agricultural tradition thanks to its weather and environmental conditions, uniqueness of the soil and specific cultivation techniques perfected over time.

"The company was founded by my father, Giovanni Signorello, over half a century ago. We follow a standard that conveys unique organoleptic, morphological and health qualities to our products. We recently became part of Consorzio di Tutela IGP Pomodoro di Pachino".The products grown by Signorello

In order to obtain the PGI mark, at least one phase of the production process needs to take place in a specific area. Those who produce PGI tomatoes must follow the strict specifications and are monitored by a specific body.

Marinda, green salad tomatoes

"We specialize in the production of different vegetables, including the famous cherry, smooth round and date tomatoes, netted melons and mini-watermelons. But the feather in our cap is the Marinda ribbed tomato, with its unique flower shape, intense flavor, juiciness and crunchiness. This variety represents 70% of our production and is grown on 8ha, producing 600 ton. Then there are other 200 tons from other producers working with us, confident that they can get good profits. We supply our partners with a product that is among the best available on the domestic and foreign markets."

The harvested produce is processed and packaged in the warehouse. "The swiftness with which our produce is processed and transported preserves its organoleptic qualities and exceptional freshness. The company holds the GlobalGAP certification and commercializes the produce both in Italy and abroad, mainly in Austria and Germany."
