new sweet point peppers from Eminent Seeds

"New sweet point peppers can withstand cold winter period"

The market for sweet point peppers is growing year after year and since the team with Eminent Seeds specialises in colourfull, tastefull novelties, they decided to include this product in their breeding activities a couple of years ago. Now their investments pay off and they're launching new yellow and red varieties to help growers improve their business.

Eminent Seeds is known for their colourful tomato, sweet pepper and chili pepper varieties. A few years ago the company invested in an improved greenhouse, professional and experienced personnel and the most up to date breeding equipment. They also turned the focus more to other products like the sweet bite pepper as well as the sweet point peppers, and with a result. Niels Koolstra with Eminent Seeds shows the new pepper varieties the company has introduced.

"Our company focuses mainly on the North-Western European climate zones, but we've also added breeding trials in italy and Spain. Since the Spanish growers almost start sowing, we focus on that market these days." Challenges for these growers include the varieties' resistance, the earliness of the production and the cold tolerance. "The varieties have to be able to withstand the Spanish winter, which can be cold."

Other than that Niels explains how there are more characteristics with what the breeders answer the demand of the growers as well as the further fresh produce thain.  "High yield per m2, tasty fruits with a great bite, high brix all year round and up to two weeks earlier with production compared to the standard type. Excellent shelf life, no cracks and can withstand the cold winter period", he says and explains how the growing demand for sweet point peppers urged the company to create these varieties.

This season three sweet bite peppers were introduced and are available along with the red and yellow sweet point peppers for all the growers who are interested. There are seeds being produced and are available to growers who would like to do trials.
