One point of contact for critical cultivation systems

In recent months, a lot of hard work has been done at the new location of tomato grower Gabel in Roeselare, Belgium. The official delivery took place at the end of April, but the first tomato plants were planted as early as March. Gabel grows tomatoes at three locations, which collectively cover 19 hectares. Tuur Galle, son of founders Franky Galle and Els Vanackere, takes the lead at their 10 hectares of new greenhouse in Roeselare. CODEMA provided all electricity, lighting, climate and water technical solutions for this new construction project. Hoogendoorn's process computer controls the climate in the greenhouse.

Hybrid lighting
Gabel chose hybrid lighting for its new greenhouse in Roeselare. Tuur Galle: "Above the tomato plants SON T-lighting and LED-lighting are placed alternately. The SON-T exposure comes from Megaphoton, a Chinese company that is gaining a foothold in Europe. The LED luminaires are from Signify. Of the 10 hectares, 5 hectares are currently lit. We deliberately chose this. SON-T-exposure alone creates too much heat in the greenhouse. The current hybrid installation produces a lot less heat compared to the old system. This allows us to make the most of the heat that the CHP generates. Moreover, we now produce tomatoes all year round."

Liquid fertilizer units
Gabel uses liquid fertilizers at its new location. Tuur Galle: "We were looking for a flexible and easy way to administer fertilizers, and we found it with this system. The equipment is easy to use, which saves us time. We don't need to store large stocks now, and we can react quickly. The equipment we work with is clean and of good quality. It can take a hit, so to speak."

We chose to install an automatic filling system " explains Tuur Galle. "This means that the A and B-tanks are (semi)-automatically filled with fertilizers without anyone having to intervene manually. So we are now equipped with all the comforts."

One point of contact
"This is the first time that we worked with Codema, we enjoyed this very much, explains Tuur Galle. "It's easy to have one point of contact for everything. That saves a lot of time that is lost to coordination. There were hardly any disturbances in the beginning, and if anything happened, we were immediately helped by the technical staff of Codema. They provide clear technical drawings, and their presentation is professional. If we expand our nursery in the future, we will again opt for Codema."
