Green refrigeration system

At A.C. Hartman in the North of The Netherlands, mainly tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers are grown for customers like the premium supermarket chain Albert Heijn and Bakker Barendrecht, one of the largest fruit and vegetable companies. Recently Hartman was acquired by Best Fresh Group. The ambition of Best Fresh is to market the biological vegetables from Hartman under the name Quality Life.

The Best Fresh Group has 16 companies and a total of over 400 employees. The group wants to contribute to a healthy world. No wonder the group when it decided to expand, aimed to have a sustainable refrigeration solution. With the natural refrigerant propane, Best Fresh will have just that.

Geerlofs Refrigeration has been a loyal supplier to Hartman for many years. The vegetables are stored in three large Geerlofs cold stores. Now that the expansion was needed, Geerlofs proved to be the best choice for Best Fresh. Consultant Adviesburo Verhoef produced the specifications and after ample consideration a propane indirect refrigeration system was selected.

The system has four compressors which deliver 400kW. The control is taken care of by Gispro, Geerlofs Intelligent Storage Processor with built-in PLC optimization of energy use and the option of remote control. Sustainability is not only guaranteed by using the aforementioned natural refrigerant but also because of the use of waste heat of the system to heat the building. Free of charge.

The comfort level of employees is taken care of with the use of air socks which distribute the conditioned air such that draft is not present.
