Sicural develops quick Covid-19 test for surfaces and processing lines

Sicural has developed a molecular biology test to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 (which causes Covid-19) for environmental samples. These tests are important to detect the presence of the virus on work surfaces in order to monitor and assess the effectiveness of sanitation processes. Companies can perform these analyses at regular intervals, therefore providing additional guarantees to their clients.

"Such analyses are important as they enable the assessment of work and shared surfaces to monitor the spreading of the virus as well as sanitation operations," explains Silvia Zuccherelli.

"The virus is very resistant and remains active on surfaces for a longtime: 48 hours on steel, 72 hours on plastic, 24 hours on cardboard and 4 hours on copper. All companies can use these tests, especially those dealing with production, processing and commercialization processes, but they are also useful for offices and businesses open to the public."

Results can be used to check sanitation processes also should any inspections occur. "Being able to prove that there is no viral RNA on surfaces that are periodically analyzed can reassure the big retail chains as well as consumers."

"Sicural supplies everything necessary to take the sample (swab with specific transport liquid). Once the swab is taken, it must be placed in the liquid and stored at 2-8°C for 48 hours maximum. It must be handed to the laboratory within 2 days."
