According to a preliminary assessment of berry growers in the village of Kunicha (Dondusheni district), about 30-70% of the crops have been lost. Considering that the town has been producing and exporting up to 1 thousand tons of strawberries over the past few years (almost a third of the total seasonal export of these berries from the Republic of Moldova), we can assume that the country's supply for the foreign market will be significantly reduced. A similar picture is observed in other “berry villages” of northern Moldova.
Nevertheless, large berry producers still plan to start regular deliveries of strawberries from Moldova to Russia in late May. There are few contracts so far, but, according to exporting producers, orders from Russian buyers will arrive, if we take into account the high initial prices of strawberries in the Russian Federation.
At the same time, Moldavian berry producers are skeptical about the prospect of selling their strawberries on the Russian market at a high price in late May - early June. Since, in their opinion, during this period, local products from the southern regions, as well as strawberries from Serbia, will appear on the Russian market. With this in mind, they are more likely to sell in the middle of next month.
