Iran's food self-sufficiency reaches 81%

Abbas Keshavarz, acting Minister of Agriculture of Iran, said about the current crop year: "For the coming year, we have seen the supply of all inputs such as: seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and livestock and poultry supplements, vaccines and serums, and a good work environment."

He also added that “We have a very close relationship with farmers, and the wheat cultivation program is 6% more than that of last year, and barley cultivation is 16 percent higher than last year, and rapeseed cultivation is 14 percent higher than last year”.

Mr. Keshavarz also told: "We have brought some new technologies to the agricultural sector, which have brought very good effects both in consumption and in increasing production."

He then added that: "Our self-sufficiency in the food production reached 81 percent last year, and our forecast is that this number will increase and reach 83% this year, thanks to the efforts of farmers."
