Eight ha greenhouse complex launched in Cherepovets

A contemporary greenhouse Novy has been launched in Cherepovets, Volgograd region. It will be producing almost 6 thousand tons of vegetables per year, delivering them to Archangelsk, Murmansk and Tver regions, as well as to Moscow, reported the regional governor’s press service.

“Despite the limiting measures related to COVID-19, we have taken the decision to launch the greenhouse complex in order to provide the people of Cherepovets with fresh vegetables. The complex has not stopped functioning, with that we have taken all the needed precautions. We are immensely grateful to the investors who, despite the crisis, allocated their finances to the construction of this unique super contemporary complex for growing greenhouse vegetables”, cited the press service the words of Mr. Oleg Kuvshinnikov, the governor of the region, who visited the production.

The decision on the construction was made in March 2016. A company from Moscow region has invested 28.4 million euro in the project.

The complex occupies the acreage of 8.2 ha and is equipped with high-tech greenhouses per Dutch technologies. The plants are grown here in substrate in hanging gutters, which improves air circulation and makes the growing process easier. Most operations, including fertilizing and watering are automated. The enterprise employs 153 associates; most of them are locals.

In two weeks, the complex will collect the first crops of lettuce and by the beginning of May first cucumbers will ripen; tomatoes will be ready to be picked by September. Due to the complex, greenhouse vegetable production in the region will double. According to the information received from the local government, 65 % of vegetables are now delivered from other areas. In order to meet the demand, 17 thousand tons of vegetables need to be produced. With the complex launch, overall regional production should reach 12 thousand tons.
