Response of tilapia and tomato to the complementation of nutrients in an aquaponic system

Aquaponics is highly efficient in the use of water, only requires the replacement of water lost by evaporation and transpiration. This system by fusing the hydroponics and aquaculture in a recirculation system, is a model that raises the production in a sustainable manner of food of high nutritional value; source of protein (fish) like vitamins and minerals (vegetables), following the principles of the efficient use of water, as well as taking advantage of the metabolites derived from the fish to the nutrition of the plant (Aguilera et al., 2012). The objective of a new study was to evaluate the effect, on the growth and nutrition of tomato, of foliar application of macronutrients (N, Ca, K and S) and adding in the nutrient solution of aquaponic treatments compared with a hydroponic system.
