Rimini, May 1 to 5, 2021

The International Strawberry Symposium has already been rescheduled

The 9th International Strawberry Symposium, initially scheduled for May 2020 in Rimini, has had to be postponed to protect the health and safety of all participants due to the health emergency generated by the coronavirus in Italy.

The organizers of the event - the Polytechnic University of Marche, the Agricultural Research Council CREA and the International Society for Horticultural Science - have announced that it will now take place from May 1 to 5, 2021.

Around 330 scientific papers, presented by 1,000 authors from countries on all continents, had already been submitted for this major convention. In addition, 148 seminars had already been scheduled - including 15 by invitation and 133 scientific presentations in three parallel sessions - on topics such as the genetics and physiology of strawberries, plant defence, the post-harvest, the properties of strawberries and the positive effects of the fruit on human health.

Bruno Mezzetti, from the Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences at the Polytechnic University of Marche, says that "this was a necessary decision given the health situation. Our main objective is to guarantee the safety of all participants. We are sure that, once this situation is overcome, the 2021 event will be an extraordinary success, as it will be the first opportunity for the entire international strawberry community to come together and reorganize after an unprecedented situation."

According to the AIM International Group (the organizing secretary of the Symposium), Palacongressi Rimini, Macfrut, the companies hosting the tours and the sponsors, it has been decided that the program will remain substantially unchanged, but with the necessary updates and additions. With the new dates, the programme will kick off with the pre-tour in southern Italy from April 29 to May 1 and will continue with the Symposium itself from May 1 to 4. Other technical seminars will continue on May 5 as part of Macfrut 2021, right before the post-tour in Northern Italy on May 6 and 7.

All the authors of the scientific papers already presented will have until September 1,2020 to confirm and present their final versions which will be featured in the new edition of the event.
