Russian: Ministry of Agriculture expects record setting greenhouse crops

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation expects record setting greenhouse crops in 2020, at least 1.25 million tons, which is 6.1% more compared to the level of 2019. The news has been reported in the announcement of the Ministry.

According to the Ministry, gross crop yield in 2019 by agricultural companies and farms, including individual entrepreneurs comprised a unique 1.14 million tons. It grew by 18% compared to 2018 and 25.7% compared to the average within the past five years. Lipetsk, Moscow, Krasnodar, Stavropol and Volgograd areas are the leaders of the sphere.

The Ministry representatives noted that according to the current data provided by the enterprises as of March 17 2020, 198.4 thousand tons of greenhouse vegetables have been collected, which is 33.6% more that in the corresponding period of 2019 (148.5 thousand tons). Of that the greenhouse cucumbers crops comprised 142 thousand tons (42% more compared to the level of the last year), 52.5 thousand tons of tomatoes (+17.7%) and 3.9 thousand tons of greenery (+39.2%).

“The greenhouse vegetable sphere has been demonstrating a significant investment renaissance. Over 1.2 thousand ha of high tech greenhouse complexes have been built or modernized within the past five years. With the account of the fact that the new greenhouses are a lot more productive than the ones built earlier, the production volumes have increased by 87.9% compared to 2014”, reads the announcement by the Ministry.

By 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture are planning to reach greenhouse vegetable productivity level of 1.6 million tons.
