The Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producer Organizations of Almería (Coexphal), which brings together 83 firms that account for 65% of this sector's volume in the province, has announced that Almería's fruit and vegetable companies have started to implement sanitary prevention and action protocols against the coronavirus.
In order to inform greenhouse workers about the measures to slow down the spread of this disease, the Ministry of Health and the Andalusian Council of Health have produced informative posters in six languages - Spanish, English, French, Arabic, Russian and Romanian – that have been distributed by companies in the province.
"The stress is put on frequent hand washing. In the warehouses, alcohol gels have also been placed in different areas as reinforcement, and workers must wear their gloves at all times, as usual," says Coexphal.
The safety and health committees of fruit and vegetable companies are meeting in order to deal with the health crisis and pass the information on to all workers for its effective implementation.
In the case of carriers, they are forced to stay in the cab of the truck and to wear a mask.
Fruit and vegetable firms in Almería are reinforcing their cleaning standards, according to Coexphal. Moreover, people must hold a safety distance of between one and two meters, check their body temperature when in the slightest doubt, restrict visits, establish work shifts and resort to teleworking in all possible cases.
