'Blueberry consumption in Europe and Spain will quadruple in the coming years'

Experts say that the consumption of blueberries continues to emerge in Europe. The same goes for EU-member Spain, a region of the planet in which this fruit is still little consumed compared to other consuming areas such as US or Canada; in those nations, volume is at more than one kilo per person per year.

The mayor of Palos de la Frontera, Carmelo Romero, has highlighted the healthy qualities of the fruit and has underlined the importance and weight it has for the local economy of his municipality, which is well known for being one of the great producers in the province of Huelva.

Together with Carmelo Romero, the delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Junta de AndalucĂa in Huelva, Alvaro Burgos, pointed out the importance of blueberries for agriculture in the province and has made a brief summary of the occupation of this product that already reaches 30% of the production of the soft fruits of Huelva.
