Unusual talent in the tomato greenhouse

At the tomato cultivation companies of Tomeco, a cluster of eight Belgian tomato growers, they regularly host interns and job students in the greenhouse to teach them about cultivation and have them work at the same time.

Recently, it was Vicky van Ginneken, not your every day talent, because Vicky is completely deaf. Tom Lefevre, Hortipower: "This is certainly not the first time we have an extraordinary talent in the greenhouse. We have been cooperating with various organizations looking for these talents."

Vicky ended up at Tomeco via Emino, which is a specialized company in finding suitable internships and jobs for 'unusual talent'.

Steady job after internship
Under the expert guidance of Marius Luca of Hortipower, and with some help from sign language interpreter Miriam Reyskens of GTB, it was an 'unforgettable and educational experience' for both Vicky and Tomeco, which fits the sustainability objectives of Tomeco for both cultivation and dealing with the staff. Tom: "We will certainly do this again. Steady jobs have resulted from internships and we are very proud of that."
