Tomato seeds from space sown in Hungarian greenhouse

In the Veresegyház tomato greenhouse, cherry tomato specialties are cultivated in a hydroculture greenhouse, by a clean, natural method, biological plant protection, and in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way. Now, they will also grow tomatoes that have traveled to outer space, as they have received tomato seeds from NASA to plant.

The seeds from space were planted in the company’s research-demo greenhouse, and their development will be closely monitored. The seeds were transferred to Hungary from NASA’s research project to Nándor Schuminszky, board member of the Hungarian Astronautical Society, who offered the special seeds to the tomato farm in Veresegyház, where, after professional sowing, they will develop and grow under continuous control.

Back in 2016, the company still produced much of their tomatoes, 85% of them for export, but the CEO has deliberately reduced the proportion and now delivers the special cherry tomatoes throughout the year, including off-season, to Hungarians.
