Bountiful harvest for Crimean tomato grower

The largest producer of Crimean tomatoes has harvested 200 tons of the crop since the beginning of the year. Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers – Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Andrei Ryumshin visited the Belogorsky greenhouse as part of his working trip.

“By the end of 2020, the company plans to produce 6.56 thousand tons of greenhouse vegetables. Production of vegetables in greenhouses is one of the dynamically and effectively developing agricultural sectors of the Republic of Crimea. The main goal is to supply the population with fresh vegetables throughout the year, address the issue of food security in the region, as well as implement an import substitution program,” the Deputy Prime Minister commented.

During the visit to the enterprise, a working meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister with the General Director of Gorkunov Group Boris Gorkunov took place. Boris Gorkunov noted that at the beginning of 2020, the first stage of the high-tech greenhouse complex with an area of 8.1 hectares was commissioned at Belogorsky Greenhouse Plant. The total area under the project will be 16.24 hectares. Investments in the first phase of the project amounted to 2.21 billion rubles [33 million USD]. According to the owner of the enterprise, the second phase will be launched in November this year.

Products from the enterprise are already being shipped both to mainland Russia and to the retail chains of the Republic of Crimea. More than 10 contracts for the supply of tomatoes to retail chains located on the peninsula have already been concluded. In the future, Crimean tomatoes are planned to be exported, since only 20-30% of the manufactured products will fully cover the needs of Crimeans and guests of the republic.
