Products grown on organic substrates in greenhouses, subject to all other requirements, must be certified as organic. This opinion was expressed on Wednesday at a meeting of the State Duma Committee on Agricultural Issues by the president of the Association of Greenhouses of Russia Alexei Sitnikov, commenting on measures to implement the requirements of Federal Law of August 03, 2018 No. 280-ФЗ On Organic Products and Amending Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation Federation, which entered into force on January 1, 2020.
“At present, the standard excludes the production of vegetables in greenhouses with the hydroponic production method, which is understood as cultivation on inert substrates. Moreover, today most modern enterprises carry out watering and use organic substrates. It is necessary that such production be certified as organic production,” said Sitnikov.
The chairman of the State Duma Agrarian Committee, Vladimir Kashin, supported him: “I believe that the technologies that are used in greenhouses at new plants fully meet the standards for the production of organic products. They do not use pesticides and other harmful substances that would violate this law, which means that the products of these plants can be certified as organic.”
On January 1, 2020, the Federal Law on Organic Products came into force in Russia, which forms the regulatory framework for the production and supply of products in the Russian Federation, the production principles of which exclude the use of fertilizers and chemicals. The manufacturer can use the image of the sign of Russian organic products after receiving a certificate of conformity of production and entering information about it in a single state register by an accredited certification body. The official sign is a white sheet on a green background with the words “organic” in Cyrillic and Latin letters.
