UK: Redesigning the crop protection toolbox

CHAP’s Innovation Team has been undertaking a period of stakeholder engagement within the crop protection sector and across relevant parties.

The aim is to underpin collaborative innovation in ‘redesigning the crop protection toolbox’, understand critical emerging challenges for farmers and growers, and develop a business case for CHAP to deliver solutions that support the sector in this area.

This period of engagement culminated in their first stakeholder workshop, on the 10th of January in Reading.

With reference to wide-ranging sectoral challenges, such as emerging resistance, tightening regulations and environmental pressures, CHAP’s innovation team and a broad and representative group of stakeholders worked together to fully understand the problem – that farmers continue to lose access to many traditional crop health protection products and technologies, amidst increasing pest and disease pressures, necessitating new and innovative approaches to ensure sustainable farming systems – and to profile options that CHAP could deliver collaboratively with the sector.

These developed options will be shortlisted, developed and appraised in the second workshop, and will form the basis for a business case for CHAP and the sector, to be developed over the coming months.
