Russia: Greenhouses in Primorye to be heated at the cost of the state budget

The greenhouses in Primorye will receive 677 thousand euro as a compensation for the heating expenses.

As the local Ministry of Agriculture have reported, last year the support received by the growers was a little more substantial, 687.4 thousand euro. With that, even the announced amount will be very welcome by most growers as they are facing a colossal financial burden, related to the greenhouse heating. As the press service representatives of the local government have reported, the heating expenses in greenhouses reach 44%.

For the comparison: the growers of other agricultural produce spend much less on electricity: it takes less than 8% of the production costs.

With that in 2019, the amount of greenhouse tomatoes produced by local growers met 51% of the population demand. In addition, production growth has been witnessed: in 2018, 434 tons of tomatoes were grown and in 2019, productivity reached 530 thousand tons (according to the data of the Institute of the Agricultural Market Condition). The population of the Russian Federation have overall consumed over a million tomatoes. The missing 500 thousand tons were purchased in Azerbaijan, the Eurasian Economic Union, China and Marocco.
