Xpol sells herbs and vegetable branch to Xfresh

On the 1st of January, Xpol sold their vegetables and herb branch to Xfresh, a new company set up by Marcel Schers and a few new agri business partners. Xpol will again focus 100% on the trade in flowers and plants, in which it already has 10 years of experience. Xfresh will operate from the same building as Xpol with co-owner Marcel Schers as director, in Rijsenhout, supplemented with an enthusiastic team.

"We see this as a good step in the further professionalisation of our activities in herbs, vegetables and fruit," says Marcel Schers about the new start. "With our expertise in the field of legumes from all over the world, fresh cut herbs from Africa, green beans, spring onions and exotic tree-ripened fruit, we think we can make a clear difference compared to other suppliers."

"We continue to follow Xpol's philosophy by making the chain fully transparent and connecting parties openly with each other. We thereby focus as much as possible on programs and not on the well-known 'daily bargaining' of day trade. In our opinion, this causes far too much unrest and you cannot actually work on a better product. In addition, our approach has various sustainable benefits. Now many things remain such as variety differences, shelf life improvement processes, unnecessary packaging and logistical costs etc. out of sight or disappearing in the daily push trade, "says Marcel.

"For example, we are strong in fresh peeled peas and edamame from Kenya, Tanzania and Zimbabwe (kg and 200g packs). The right variety (correct size, sweet, not bitter) and temperature management are crucial here. Without a thorough knowledge of the product, the risk of getting bitter and sprouted peas is huge," the director of Xfresh concludes.
