"For what I'm getting for my tomatoes, let the goats eat them"

Almeria's agricultural producers are increasingly angry due to the price crisis in the sector. This is the case of Paco Fernández, a producer from El Ejido who has his greenhouse in the town of La Cañada, where he produces tomatoes. Fernández denounced the low price of the product, stating that rather than allowing his tomatoes to be sold for 10 cents, he prefers a friend of his to use them to feed his goats. And that's exactly what has happened. In fact, he shared a video of him giving the product away to feed those animals.

Protests
This is not a new situation for Almeria. Producers have already been denouncing the so-called ‘price crisis’ for several campaigns, and images of producers throwing their products away because of this situation have become increasingly common. As a result, Almeria's agricultural sector organized historic protests on November 19, 2019, with more than 16,000 people taking part.

This demonstration was described as an "unprecedented success" by the organizers, who believed it would draw the attention of the administration.

Although it was a success, producers report that the situation has not been reversed.
