Hazera has already a long history in Tomato breeding. In 2011 Hazera decided to invest in High Tech breeding, especially for tomatoes grown in glasshouses. Combining the right genetics gave varieties which can compete with the standards in the market today. Tomatoes Amastera and Rotera are now tested globally in the main High Tech markets.
Hazera, as part of the Limagrain Group, has the mission to become an important player in this market. "The actual tomato breeding program leads already fast to new, even more competitive varieties. We will start testing in 2019/2020. According to the results and feedback so far, these varieties will take part of this very competitive market", says Karel van Welten with Hazera.
Big cluster
27468 is tested in the Netherlands on small scale in 2019, the first data look very promising. The Big Cluster on the Vine with an average fruit weight of 165 grams exceeds the actual standards. "Higher yield potential per metre square, an excellent summer quality and very early as well. The cluster presentation is authentic and very attractive", Karel shows.
Specialty
"In the speciality market Summersun is standard for the yellow cherry market. In the small beef market Goutine is sold as one of the best tasting varieties in the market grown exclusively by Red Star and Stoffels in the Benelux", he continues. "Coming year we start testing the mini plum 48240 (10-12 grams) which has an excellent taste and level of production compared to the standard."
