The Union of Independent Agricultural Producers, an Almeria-based organization created as a result of the price crisis that the province's fruit and vegetable production sector is going through, has decided to stop the harvest and sale of eggplants and peppers until prices exceed the production costs.
This will continue indefinitely until prices respond as desired. "Everyone is free to go to their cooperative, alhóndiga, warehouse or point of sale, share information and encourage their neighboring producers," said the Union in a statement.
"It costs money" to harvest
This platform brought together more than 500 producers last week in a demonstration against the current low prices. "We don't like this situation; unfortunately, it is the one we have to deal with. It costs us money to harvest vegetables such as eggplant. We cannot allow them to continue earning money at our expense. We want our work and effort to be appreciated," they said.
