market observatory launched

The European Commission wants more transparency in the vegetable market

On Friday, October 18, the European Commission launched a market observatory for the fruit and vegetable sector with the aim of increasing transparency in the market for growers. The focus will be on tomato, among other things.

The market observatory offers current information about prices, production and trade. In addition, market analyzes will be made regularly and expectations made for developments in the short and medium term. There will also be regular consultations between experts where the available information will be discussed.

The focus within the new market observatory of the European Union will be on tomato, hard fruit, citrus and stone fruit. The European Union already has comparable market observatories for arable crops, sugar, meat and milk. A comparable platform for wine will soon be available too.
