Persistent cold weather and rain in Poland have caused a significant reduction in the supply of cucumbers to the market, according to analysts of the EastFruit project. Only limited quantities of greenhouse cucumbers are being sold, and open ground cucumbers have almost disappeared from the market.
Also, market participants reported a further reduction in the greenhouse volume associated with a seasonal factor. In the current circumstances, traders have had the opportunity to push prices up, and by the end of the week, they have been selling cucumbers fort $ 0.94-1.12 / kg, which is on average 30% more than at the end of the previous working week.
Market analysts say that such a rapid increase in prices is linked to a high demand. At the same time, due to the cool weather that has persisted in the country since the beginning of October, the cucumber production from local greenhouses remains small.
It is worth noting that, despite the increase in prices, Polish cucumbers are still on average 14% cheaper than in the same period last year. Regarding the further development of the situation, it is said that it all comes down to the weather conditions, as this is the main factor behind the changes in the volume supplied on the market.
