First harvest of industrial tomatoes of the Spanish AGRITOM 2.0 project

The first harvest from the test field of the Agritom 2.0 project, which is promoting tomato cultivation in the Spanish region of La Rioja, and which proposes improvements in efficiency and good agricultural practices, has been presented by the organizations involved in the study: Ctic Cita, Cooperativa El Raso, the University of La Rioja and the Caja Rioja Foundation.

The organizations presented the different varieties of industrial tomatoes being harvested, which are supplied by Heinz Seeds, Seminis, Viromil and NunHems. The properties of those tomatoes were also shown. For example, it was possible to see the differences in terms of color and texture between each variety; a result of their various cultivation techniques.

The tomatoes from each research group will be analyzed in the laboratory focusing on their color, texture, firmness and Brix value. The results of these analyses, together with the conclusions on their economic and environmental impact, will be available within a few months.
