Almeria to host the largest center of biotechnology applied to agriculture in Europe

In October, the Almeria-based manufacturer and marketer of fertilizers Kimitec, based in Roquetas and with a factory in La Mojonera, will open the largest center of biotechnology applied to agriculture in Europe. The state-of-the-art facilities have more than 5,000 square meters dedicated to R&D&I in biopesticides, prebiotics and probiotics, in a clear commitment to obtaining natural solutions. It will have four large distinct areas for research in botany, microbiology, microalgae and green chemistry, with greenhouse testing.

The project also includes 2,000 square meters of greenhouses, 400 of which will be for the study of medical cannabis. It will have twenty full-time researchers and will collaborate with public and private centers and agencies.

The Research Center's architectural design has been developed by Enmedio environmental factory.

In a second phase, the plan is to build a biofertilizer factory, which would be completed in 2022, and to make a global investment of 40 million Euro.

Kimitec, owned by several partners, arrived in the west of Almeria in 2007 and since then it hasn't stopped expanding, reaching 70 countries and with commercial delegates in Chile, Brazil, the US and China.
