Oman cultivated many different crops on 104,000 ha in 2018

The total cultivated area in the sultanate reached 103,600 ha by the end of 2018 compared to 96,000 ha by the end of 2017, an increase of 8 percent, according to the data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Fodder crops accounted for the largest amount of cultivated land, followed by fruit crops, with a total area of 30,000 ha and a total production of 459,695 tonnes, and vegetables, with a total area of 21,400 ha and production of 817,940 tonnes.

As per the statistics, in fruit crops, date palms accounted for a total production of 368,808 tonnes while mangoes accounted for a total production of 15,847 tonnes. The total cultivated areas for bananas was 1,485 ha and a production of 18,265 tonnes.

Lemon cultivation had a production of 7,112 tonnes while coconut cultivation ended up at 6,643 tonnes. Papaya: a total production of 5,772 tonnes and areas cultivated with other fruit crops stood at a total production of 37,247 tonnes.

In vegetable crops, tomatoes accounted for the largest cultivated areas, with a production of 199,232 tonnes, followed by watermelon with 56,047 tonnes and cauliflower with 28,031 tonnes. Cantaloupes yielded a production of 33,463 tonnes while pepper production stood at 64,663 tonnes.
