First Bulgarian AgriTechHack

The very first Bulgarian AgriTechHack is coming this September 13, 2019 in Izgrev!!! The hack is a joint effort by Nik Academy, Embassy of the Netherlands in Bulgaria, FarmHackNL, and the local AgroHubBG.

Modern, precise, high-tech and digital - the agriculture of the future. This is what the organizers of the first Agro Hackathon in Bulgaria believe. They are the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bulgaria, NIK Electronics Ltd. and NIK Academy, FarmHack.NL and the AgroHubBG. The AgriTechHack @ NIK Academy event will be held on September 13 and 14, 2019 at NIK Academy’s base in Izgrev village, Shumen region.

There will be a cash grand prize provided by the EU-wide project Smart Agri Hubs for the winning team!

The purpose of the event is to create interest and understanding among farmers and those involved in the agro-sector for the ability to apply software solutions to the challenges they face. The experts present during the event and the carefully selected mentors will support the process of developing project proposals within the 28-hour event. The first Agro Hackathon is expected to help bring together and create links and synergies in the agricultural sector through information and communication technologies. It will increase interest in the agricultural sector as an opportunity for professional development through the technologies of the future.

The topics chosen by the organizers on which the solutions will be developed are as follows:

  • Beekeeping Technologies - applications for the protection of bee families; applications for alarming actions taken by farmers on spraying; shepherds for bee families, etc.
  • IOT Automation - applications to assist farmers, when is the right time to carry out the various field operations; basic crops and the most appropriate time for their cultivation; monitoring of dams in agricultural territories and prevention of overflow, etc.
  • Machine Date - IOT Mapping, Agricultural Technology Data Analysis, Tracking, etc.
  • AI & robotics - Robots in Agriculture, Monitoring of Crops and Soils, etc.

The first Agro Hackathon is the largest event connecting IT and the agro-sector ever held in the country. Its initiators are convinced that it is only the beginning of the path to the next level in agricultural production, and the combined efforts will lead to the achievement of real results, supported by high technologies, which are no longer part of the future, but work for us here and now.
