On Monday, it already became apparent that glass damage occurred last weekend, but it was not immediately clear where exactly it had happened. Now we know, because the Noord-Hollands Dagblad visited the affected growers while the glass repair specialists were already busy.
A tornado left a trail of destruction. Greenhouse grower Frank Buisman grows ornamental flowers for PanAmerican Seeds. He saw the back of his greenhouse being completely swept away by the natural phenomenon. The fifteen thousand begonias that were in the glasshouse can go straight into the waste container.
Grower Wim Reus, who propagates zantedeschias on behalf of the Schouten breeding company, also has considerable damage. Large parts of the glass roof were blown away. A modern screen cloth, in which substantial investments were made, also may have to be replaced. "I already estimate the damage at more than a hundred thousand."
All that glass has to be discarded in the glass container. A full container, as the Noord-Hollands Dagblad observed in the yard at Mark Keuls’ Seed Care, a seed production company in Oosterleek. He had hoped that the screen cloth would have blocked the glass well, so that his cucumbers could have been spared.
