General situation of the horticultural production in this Spanish province

Start of Almeria's next pepper planting campaign

The greenhouses of Almeria's Poniente devoted to the production of peppers are already harvesting the last batches and preparing the new plantings. Growers in the municipalities of Dalías, Berja and Adra will continue to plant bell peppers.

In the seedbeds, the amount of bell and Lamuyo pepper plantings continues to increase, and batches of peppers are being shipped to the earliest areas, according to data from the Regional Council of Agriculture of the Government of Andalusia.

As for tomatoes, the harvest of the last spring crops intended for the national markets is still on-going. The soil is being prepared in the remaining greenhouses.

When it comes to eggplant, the new plantations are still producing, with blanched greenhouse covers and stronger ventilation. There is also very little cucumber left, and the zucchini harvest continues for the spring plantings and will last until the end of the month.

As far as melons are concerned, the harvest of the Piel de Sapo, Yellow and Galia is on-going, while the watermelon one is practically finished.
