New participative app to follow insects

GeoInsecta is a community application that aims at following the presence of some targeted insects in the fields or in the gardens. It’s dedicated not only to professionals but also to hobby gardeners.

It answers to a need that has been raised by many people who wanted to protect their crops efficiently: when is the best moment to apply a protection product to optimize the efficacy? The flights of insects are sometimes difficult to forecast, and their arrival can be sudden. In that situation, it could be difficult to be ready and to have prepared the fight (availability of product, people available…).

Thus, this participative application allows everybody to share their observations in the fields with the whole community instantaneously. The application is very easy to use: “you just have to create an account, click on 'signal' button, choose in the list the insect you have observed and if it’s an adult or a larva, and you’re done”, explains Sébastien Rousselle, marketing manager at Bioline Agrosciences. The observation is automatically displayed in the tracking map, available to every participant, graceful to the GPS location function.

The application is fully free, and accessible to anybody. The level of activity is up to the user: “either you want to participate actively by sharing your observations, or you can also only consult the observations around you”, specifies Sébastien Rousselle. Designed to be easy to use, no need to look at it every time to be updated: when registering to the application, you specify your location. This will allow the automatic sending of a message when somebody will have observed an insect of interest around you.

Easy to use, friendly and participative, this application is now available freely in 6 languages: English, Dutch, German, French, Italian and Spanish.

Download the app from Google Play or the App Store.
