54% of the lettuce consumed in the EU is Spanish

In 2018, more than half of the lettuce consumed in the European Union (EU) came from Spain, which supplied 621.59 million kilos of the 1,152.39 million kilos of lettuce imported by the EU Member States. This information has been reported by Hortoinfo based on data from the Euroestacom statistical service (Icex-Eurostat).

Sales by country
Spain was the country that supplied the most lettuce to the Member States in 2018, with 54 percent of the total. The value of those shipments stood at 552.39 million Euro, with an average price of 0.889 Euro per kilo.

Italy ranked second, with a volume of 142.05 million kilos, 237.66 million Euro, and an average price of 1.673 Euro per kilo.

The EU's third largest lettuce supplier in terms of volume was the Netherlands, which sold 137.99 million kilos worth 202.87 million Euro, obtaining an average price of 1.47 Euro per kilo.

The fourth place was for Germany, with 75.58 million kilos, 108.42 million Euro and an average price of 1.434 Euro per kilo.

France closes the top 5 of the EU's main lettuce suppliers in 2018, with 65 million kilos, 101.91 million Euro and an average price of 1.568 Euro per kilo.
