COAG Almería informs about the Insurance Line 306 for horticultural products under cover

Only 14% of Almeria's greenhouse production is insured

Given the data published by Agroseguro, which revealed that the number of greenhouse producers in the province of Almeria insured under the 2018 insurance plan doesn't exceed 14%, COAG Almería held an informative meeting on June 21. The idea was to outline the characteristics and warranties of the insurance for horticultural crops under cover.

The agricultural insurance for protected crops is dedicated solely and exclusively to vegetables grown under cover, although it can also include greenhouse structures throughout the production cycle. The risks covered by this insurance are hail, frost, wind or exceptional threats, such as fires, viruses or other climatic adversities.

If all climatic risks, as well as virosis, are included in the insurance, the contracting period for it is June 1, 2019 to September 15, 2019. "We must take into account that the virus coverage must be contracted before fifteen days have elapsed after the transplant," says Antonio Moreno, head for Agricultural Insurances at COAG Andalucía. However, if the insured don't want coverage against virosis in their insurance policy, the contract date can be extended to October 30.

Moreno also said that "this Agrarian Organization is working all year round in a dialogue table together with ENESA, Agroseguro and other administrations. The goal there is to propose changes and improvements, so that agricultural insurance can be increasingly adapted to the needs of producers.
