Mienis Water showed their Ultrafiltration unit at the Amsterdam GreenTech 2019. This system is part of their total water concept on water management within flower and vegetable farming.
Technical director Jochum Genuït explains their technology. "Ultrafiltration is a membrane technology. This membrane let salts pass but filters out all organics. The membrane can block viruses up to a log 5.34 and bacteria even to a log 9.15. Our filter is not sensitive to turbidity, we can handle up to 150 microns, also colour is no problem. We can even recover most ferry fertilizers completely."
Jochum tells us that in general, they have 3 applications for this technology:
- Pre-treatment: "It is a perfect technology as pre-treatment before Nano or Reversed Osmose systems. Organic fouling is a big problem on Nano and RO systems. Because UF membranes filters out all organics, we can guaranty a good and stable treatment process."
- Surface water treatment: "To drinking water or process water quality. If the analysis of the water permits, we can produce good and safe water in one step. See the photos showed above from Naivasha lake water in Kenya, before and after treatment."
- Water recycling: "The safest and possibly the best way to recycle drain water. Because of the low operational costs, our UF systems have the cheapest operational costs. Even better, it is also the safest technology. The Return of Investment is often around 1 year."
