In some 5 months' time, the 7th edition of Fresh Business Expo will open its doors at the International Exhibition Centre (IEC) in Kyiv. The exhibition will take place from 3-5 December 2019.
Being the only trade event in Ukraine that focuses exclusively on the Fresh Produce Industry the organisers of the event see a growing interest from newcomers to participate in the exhibition and explore the possibilities of the Ukrainian market.
The Ukrainian Fresh Produce industry is developing rapidly and the free trade agreement with the EU has more than compensated for the loss of the Russian export market.
In fact, the European Union is an even greater export market for Ukrainian growers of fruits of vegetables considering that they meet European standards.
As the European market sets relatively high standards in terms of quality, the industry is steadily investing in new technologies and equipment to have higher yield, safe production and higher quality.
Over the past three years, areas under greenhouse vegetables in Ukraine have gradually been increasing. According to official data, from 2016 to 2018, these figures increased by 9%. At the same time, analysts note that the largest area growth was recorded in 2018.
According to data from the State Statistics Service, in 2018 6,470 hectares were in use for greenhouse vegetables growing in Ukraine. For comparison, a year before greenhouse vegetables occupied no more than 6,000 hectares.
More than half of these areas are used for greenhouse cucumber production. At the end of 2018, greenhouse cucumbers were grown on an area of 3,300 hectares, which is 9% more than a year before. Tomatoes are in second place.
According to experts, the growing interest in tomatoes and cucumbers greenhouse production is due to several reasons. Firstly, demand for greenhouse produce is rising in the country: every year wholesale companies and retailers increasingly refuse open-ground produce because of problems with the quality of such vegetables. Secondly, the majority of greenhouse centers quite actively export such products.
Ukraine’s output levels make it the fifth largest fruit, vegetable, and berry-producing nation in Europe. In addition, Ukraine is the number 2 in the world in terms of blueberry area expansion and the number 3 European exporter of raspberry.
Fresh Business Expo covers the entire chain of the Fresh Produce industry; from seed to table.
One of the key success factors of the exhibition is the specialized conference, “Fruits & Vegetables of Ukraine” organized by Fruit Inform. The exhibition is organized under the umbrella of Fresh Business Expo and is the ideal meeting place for leading growers, traders, supermarket chains, importers, exporters, processors as well as input and equipment suppliers.
